The difference you will make

AfriKids believes that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. With a secondary education, 420 million people would be lifted out of poverty, and every additional year of education is associated with 10% increase in earnings. 

It is estimated that by 2050, 40% of the world’s children will be African and right now, nearly 9 in 10 children in Sub Saharan Africa are not learning: unable to read and understand a simple text at the age of 10. However, right now, poverty, ill-health and traditional practices that harm children including child marriage and child labour are preventing children from gaining a quality education. 

Change starts at the community level. 

Over the next three years, you will partner with a hard-to-reach community in northern Ghana, where two in three families live in poverty and 1 in 16 children die before their fifth birthday. As a Community Champion, you will equip community members to break the barriers keeping their children out of school by ensuring all children can feel safe and access quality healthcare and education. This includes the most vulnerable street children, children with special needs and girls threatened by child marriage. Because you are empowering communities to tackle their challenges themselves, we know that the change you make possible will last forever. 

You will give children a chance to break their cycle of poverty and unlock their potential to tackle global issues like child mortality, climate change and conflict. It is the best investment we can all make in ensuring the next generation lead a brighter future – for themselves, their communities and the future of humanity.
