Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock MBE presents the BBC Radio 4 Appeal for AfriKids.
Sunday 2nd April marks the start of AfriKids’ week as the featured charity for BBC Radio 4’s Charity Appeal. We are raising funds to provide girls in northern Ghana with access to STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) through after school STEM clubs.
When the time came for AfriKids to find a presenter for our appeal, Dr Maggie was the only logical choice! As a space scientist and space communicator, Maggie is a trailblazing force for women in STEM and has dedicated much of her time to making science more accessible for children in schools. She works to challenge misconceptions of science subjects and inspire the next generation to dream big.
In our appeal, Maggie shares the importance of access to STEM for girls across northern Ghana, including the story of Sadiatu, who is using the skills she learnt in her AfriKids STEM club for the greater good!
You can tune in and listen to our appeal at the following times:
Sunday 2nd April at 07.54am and 21.25pm
Thursday 6th April at 15.27pm
Or, you can listen via this link once the appeal has been aired on Sunday morning.
Every £31 raised could fund an entire year’s worth of STEM education for one girl like Sadiatu. With your support, AfriKids can continue to bring big smiles and brighter futures to girls across northern Ghana, helping them to lift themselves and their communities out of poverty. With Ghana’s cost-of-living crisis pushing more families into extreme poverty, now more than ever children need protection and support to stay in school.
And, The Ruddock Foundation for the Arts has generously agreed to provide match funding for our appeal, meaning every pound you donate will be doubled up to £25,000.
You can listen to the appeal and make your donations from 2nd – 9th April by visiting our appeal webpage at https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001kplx or by clicking on the donate button below!
Thank you all so much for your ongoing support.
