Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock MBE presents the BBC Radio 4 Appeal for AfriKids.
Sunday 2nd April marks the start of AfriKids’ week as the featured charity for BBC Radio 4’s Charity Appeal. We are raising funds to provide girls in northern Ghana with access to STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) through after school STEM clubs.
When the time came for AfriKids to find a presenter for our appeal, Dr Maggie was the only logical choice! As a space scientist and space communicator, Maggie is a trailblazing force for women in STEM and has dedicated much of her time to making science more accessible for children in schools. She works to challenge misconceptions of science subjects and inspire the next generation to dream big.
In our appeal, Maggie shares the importance of access to STEM for girls across northern Ghana, including the story of Sadiatu, who is using the skills she learnt in her AfriKids STEM club for the greater good!

Every £31 raised could fund an entire year’s worth of STEM education for one girl like Sadiatu. With Ghana’s cost-of-living crisis pushing more families into extreme poverty, now more than ever children need protection and support to stay in school.
