Zaare Challenge Activities

Sirigu Arts Challenge

Meet the talented women from the rural village of Sirigu, who use their creativity and skills in pottery and painting to support their family. Learn about the rich history of the village and how  this is represented by different colours, patterns and symbols. Paint your very own canvas or traditional pottery and present this to the group.

From ground to table

Most families in northern Ghana rely on farming, selling what they grow at market and using it to make delicious meals! Visit a local farm to learn about what they grow, hear the common challenges families face, visit a busy local market to shop for ingredients and follow a recipe to prepare your own traditional Ghanaian dish.

Lessons with a community chief

Villages in Ghana have their own Chief, a tradition dating back over 700 years. Chiefs have multiple responsibilities to ensure their village is run well. Meet a local chief to learn about the history of his community and his day-to-day tasks. Take a tour of his home, meet his children and learn about local community life. Make notes of everything that you learn, draw pictures and make a scrapbook.

“I truly still believe that the trip had a long lasting effect on Archie. At a time when he needed some purpose it was the best thing he could have possibly done.
He fought an election in school to become prime minister last month and won!! That’s all thanks to the Zaare Challenge giving him confidence that he just didn’t have before the trip.”
