Cletus Anaaya

It is with deep sadness that we share the news our friend and colleague, Mr Cletus Anaaya, passed away on Sunday 19th March 2023 following an illness.

Cletus was from the village of Sirigu in northern Ghana, the incredible community where the story of AfriKids also began, with our work supporting local efforts to protect vulnerable children. Cletus loved travelling, reading, writing, politics and watching football. He trained as a teacher and completed a degree in Education before joining AfriKids in 2006 to head up “Operation Fresh Start”, one of AfriKids’ first projects which, under his leadership, successfully supported 160 children living and working in slums of southern Ghana to return home to their families in northern Ghana and go into school or vocational trades. The success of Operation Fresh start lay the foundation for AfriKids’ programmes to grow and Cletus was put in charge of heading up that portfolio of “Core Projects”.

Cletus was well loved by his friends and colleagues at AfriKids and within the communities he tirelessly served. His compassion and determination to improve life for children in his home region of northern Ghana made an impact on thousands of people’s lives. Cletus leaves a remarkable legacy and so many children now have brighter futures because of him.

We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, children, family and many friends and colleagues at AfriKids and beyond. Rest in peace, Cletus, you will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
