The Young Entrepreneurs Programme
The Young Entrepreneurs Programme was started in 2009 to provide the support needed by young adults moving on from Mama Laadi’s Foster Home.
Mama Laadi’s is unique among AfriKids’ projects in that it is the only centre dedicated to long term residential care for children. The vast majority of the projects focus on supporting children to have a decent life within their family homes, but Mama Laadi’s is for the children in exceptional circumstances who do not have a viable family home to be part of.
As the children approach their late teenage years the foster home environment is no longer appropriate but they don’t necessarily have the skills or qualifications needed to find work and support themselves. The Young Entrepreneur Programme provides them with rented accommodation and all of the resources they need to pursue full time vocational training or, increasingly, tertiary education. At the end of their period of education or training they are provided with the tools needed to either set up in business or pursue a professional career. Throughout the process which last four or five years the Young Entrepreneurs are closely mentored by AfriKids Ghana’s core team and remain much loved members of Mama Laadi’s family.
