Friends of AfriKids USA is an independent organisation registered in the USA with 501(c)3 status and is eligible to receive tax deductable charitable contributions within the limits prescribed by law.  The organisation champions AfriKids work and provides a tax efficient way for US residents to support AfriKids.

Organise a friend-raiser or fundraising event

Organising an informal gathering of friends, family and colleagues can be the perfect way to raise awareness of AfriKids’ pioneering child rights and community developments projects in Ghana’s Upper East Region, helping us to grow our family of US-based friends and supporters.
If you would like to consider putting on your own event, whether to raise new friends and/or funds for AfriKids, please get in touch. We can give you all of the tools, resources and support you need to make this simple and enjoyable.

Perhaps it has a Charity of the Year scheme, or a charitable foundation which issues grants to eligible causes?  AfriKids has an excellent track record in working with corporates of all shapes and sizes; whether developing and running successful corporate partnerships which engage global employees, or providing in-depth feedback on the impact of funds donated to AfriKids; our teams our passionate about bringing to life the organisation’s work for companies and employees based all over the world, and ensuring the impact of any donated funds is truly understood. You can read more about these here.

Board of Directors

Megan Morgan


Megan Morgan is an administrative professional who has worked for over 30 years supporting senior executives in law firms, network television, and the diplomatic corps.  Through her current position with leading international law firm, Allen & Overy LLP in its Washington, DC office, she visited AfriKids Ghana on the Experience Challenge in 2012, where she visited AfriKids Ghana’s programmes in Ghana’s Upper East Region, and from which she has maintained a wonderful connection with her host family in Talensi Nabdam.  Megan has also co-founded and served on the boards of two professional theatre companies in Washington, DC – The Source Theatre and Washington Shakespeare Company (a/k/a Avant Bard).  She has performed and directed in New York and DC theatres, and is a Helen Hayes Award nominee.  

Melissa Murdoch

Vice President & Treasurer

Melissa has a background in international development including human rights and public health projects in Cambodia and microcredit programmes in Peru.  Melissa joined the Board of the Garfield Weston Foundation in 2008 and is also a Board member of a number of other charitable and philanthropic organisations.  Melissa and her two children visited Ghana with AfriKids in October 2012, living with a local family and meeting the local AfriKids Ghana team.

Fiona Humphrey


Fiona is a senior risk management professional with over 16 years’ experience in the financial services sector. Currently based at Deutsche Bank (DB) in New York, she first came across AfriKids in 2010 when the charity was selected as the DB London’s chosen charity partner for the year. Fiona has been actively involved in the third sector for many years, including acting as a philanthropy fellow for the London Community Foundation, mentoring and providing a professional support network to trafficked women, participating in a women’s inspiration group and being an active member of the New Zealand Business Women’s Network before leaving for the US. 

Joseph Stefano


Joseph is a Partner at A&O in New York, with extensive experience with a broad range of secured and unsecured financing structures, utilised in connection with corporate finance and big ticket asset finance (including aircraft, rail cars, satellites, vessels, offshore drilling rigs, containers, equipment and infrastructure assets). He regularly represents hedge funds, multi-lateral and government agencies, banks, airlines, manufacturers, leasing companies and other corporate clients, providing him with an invaluable 360° perspective of transactional issues. Joe visited AfriKids Ghana’s programmes in October 2012 as a representative of A&O, AfriKids’ global corporate partner at the time.
